After a short break and a light breakfast , We will start the trek. The first hours of the hike will be on the flat terrain until you reach the observation point and the pass of Capuliyoc (2, 800 masl) Then we will see the chain of the area, the Apurimac Canyon and the Apurimac Mountain . This river is long and abundant. It passes through all the mountains of the Andes until reaching the Atlantic Ocean. We will also be able to detect Choquequiraw distance. We will ascend by a winding path that will take us away from the canyon in the direction of the Santa Rosa area (2,290 m.a.s.l.) approx. It is about a 3 hour walk approx. With a brief rest stop. Later, we will continue ascending to Marampata (2850 m.a.s.l). During our walk we will go to the great vegetation of the area in which the orchids have the first and most important place. You will also see violets: there is also a chance to see loved ones, anteaters from a distance and a different variety of birds. In this place, we are going to spend the night.
Day III: MARAMPATA / CHOQUEQUIRAW / MARAMPATA / CHIQUISHCA
After breakfast in Marampampa (2,850 m.a.s.l.) We will start our walk to the last place of refuge of the Incas: Choquequirao or “Cradle of Gold” (3033 m.a.s.l.) This route will be 1 ½ hike aprox.
Choquequiraw was designed with 9 zones. These areas were built as small towns that surround a plaza to which all the streets of each city will end. The following areas have been identified: upper areas (Hanan), storage areas (QOLQA), Plaza de Armas (Huacaypata), the lower square (Hurin), the platform system where crops used for cultivation (Shaqra Anden ), The ceremonial platform (Ushno) and the priests’ houses at the bottom of the hill. Due to all these findings it is presumed that Choquequiraw was a great political and economic center that has been used as a center of commerce and culture of change between the coast, sierra and jungle. It should be noted that Choquequiraw is also known as “Sacred Machupicchu sister”, due to similarities in design and architectural structure.
After this interesting visit and exploration of Choquequiraw, we will return to Marampata (2850 ma.s.l.) where we will have lunch. Afterwards, we will descend to the Apurimac Canyon crossing over the river through the Rosalina beach area (1,550 m.a.s.l.) and then continue Chiquishca (1,930 m.a.s.l.).
